About Balls

A ball is a round object that is often used in sporting activities, games and in machinery (ball bearings). Most balls are spherical in shape, this allows them to bounce or roll smoothly in a straight line over a surface and also makes them easy to catch and hold since their shape is uniform. For some sports such as rugby and American football the ball that is used is elongated so that it does not bounce or roll in a predictable manner. A spherical ball can be kicked or thrown in a way that causes it to spin while it travels resulting in the ball curving as it moves through the air making it more difficult for an opposing player to catch or hit the ball.
