A horse is a large hoofed mammal with four legs and an elongated head, short body hair, a mane and a tail. Horses have been domesticated for thousands of years and in that time they have been used by humans for recreational activities and to provide transportation and carry loads or move equipment and machinery. Nowadays the phrase horse power is still used to describe the power of a motorized vehicle, a result of the significant role that the horse played in transportation. In the past horses were particularly important in farming and warfare, they were used to plough the land and to round up livestock and they gave a distinct advantage during battles to cultures that were proficient in their use.
