About Tunnels

A tunnel is an passageway through an object to connect two or more points on either side of the object. A common type of tunnel is build underground to allow passage through an area where it is not practical to travel over the ground due to an obstruction such as a hill, road or river. Tunnels are also build under modern cities to provide space for cabling, water supplies and sewage (sewers). Natural tunnels are produced by the effects of water eroding the earth and rocks or by lava from volcanic eruptions (lava tubes).
